FRAME captures Hundred Changes in Life, an installation by Tatsuo Miyajima, containing LEDs engraved with numbers inside a cylindrical mirror. The LED numbers range from 0 to 9, changing continuously (0 is represented by darkness). These constantly changing numbers represent the various states of “Seimei”, known as the “Ten Worlds”: Hell, Hunger, Animals, Anger, Human Beings, Heaven, Learning, Realization, Bodhisattva and Buddha. The constantly changing numbers represent the various states of “Seimei”. The speed and order of these changes are random, and the colors also keep changing through ten different shades. This reflects the idea that each of the Ten Worlds contains its own Ten Worlds, which in turn means that they are the “Hundred Worlds”.
