Timeline Shift is the title of the fourth edition of the Re:humanism Art Prize, a prize established in 2018 by the cultural association Re:humanism to explore the relationship between art and artificial intelligence and open to all professional artists, regardless of age or geographical origin.
This year’s edition explores the concept of time, often experienced from a Western perspective oriented towards the future and productivity, but today calls for openness to other cultural and ritual forms. It is an invitation to rediscover, in technologies and everyday life, a synchronicity capable of reconnecting individual experience with the world around us, including living species, artificial entities and ourselves. Timeline Shift attempts to go beyond this ‘wrong timeline’, enabling the ability to influence the world and technological progress, almost like a collective spell. At the same time, it also aims to stimulate reflections on how to rethink obsolete value systems, inviting artists to imagine and experiment with tools capable of overcoming the current condition. The aim is to trace trajectories towards a more inclusive, ethical and sustainable future.
Participants are invited to reflect on six thematic areas: Data Feminism, imagining and informing feminist AIs; Decoloniality & Re-enchantment, different knowledge for new worlds; Radical Remixes, how to overcome the recursive logic of LLMs (Large Language Models); Prosthetics, rewriting the codes of the body; Interfaces, the lenses through which we perceive the world; Other Visions, everything we dared not know.
Ten projects will be selected by a jury composed of experts in the field of contemporary art and new digital technologies, together with the founders of Re:humanism. In this edition, in addition to the awarding of eight production and exhibition prizes, there will be the Romaeuropa Digitalive Prize and the APA Prize, which includes the exhibition of the winning works on digital billboard spaces distributed throughout the city of Rome. In June 2025, the Fondazione Pastificio Cerere in Rome will host an exhibition dedicated to the selected artists, offering the opportunity to discover the award-winning projects and new visions developed along the way.
